Montessori-inspired ideas, thoughtful family routines and honest reflections on parenting while living with chronic illness and fluctuating energy.
.
Welcome to Empowered Montessori Mama!
I’m a mum of two who has always been fascinated by how children learn, explore and grow into confident, capable individuals. Alongside raising my family, I’ve spent much of my life navigating chronic illness, including multiple sclerosis and other long-term health conditions. My energy isn’t always predictable, and life hasn’t always gone the way I imagined, but those experiences have profoundly shaped both the parent I am and the reasons I created this space.
When I became a parent, I quickly realised that much of the parenting advice I came across seemed to assume parents had endless energy, perfect health and plenty of time. That simply wasn’t my reality. I wanted to create the sort of resource I had been looking for—one that was honest about the challenges of parenting with chronic illness while still celebrating the joy, wonder and privilege of raising children.
I certainly don’t have it all figured out. Some days I cope well; other days I don’t. There are moments of joy, moments of frustration, plans that have to change, and yes, the occasional meltdown or pity party too. This isn’t a place for pretending life is easy. It’s a place for sharing what’s genuinely helping, learning as we go, and reminding each other that we don’t have to do everything perfectly to raise happy, curious and capable children.
I hope this will be a place to share ideas, encouragement and practical strategies for living well with chronic illness whilst parenting, while also celebrating the lovely Montessori routines, family habits and simple moments that have made such a difference to our lives. Montessori has helped us encourage independence, slow down, appreciate childhood and create a calmer family life, but I don’t believe there is one perfect way to parent. I simply hope that by sharing what has helped our family, you might discover ideas that help yours too.
Alongside Montessori-inspired activities and practical ideas for encouraging independence, you’ll also find children’s books we love, seasonal inspiration, family traditions, learning through play, home organisation, honest reflections and the little adaptations that make everyday life that bit easier.
I hope that by sharing the ideas, routines and strategies it has taken me months—and sometimes years—to learn, I can encourage other parents facing similar challenges and help them feel a little more confident in finding what works for their own family.
Whether you’re a parent living with chronic illness or disability, navigating life with limited energy, or simply looking for thoughtful Montessori-inspired ideas to use at home, I hope you’ll find encouragement, inspiration and reassurance here.
Thank you so much for visiting. I hope Empowered Montessori Mama becomes a place you enjoy returning to—a place that reminds you that family life doesn’t have to be perfect to be joyful, meaningful and full of possibility.
